How to Measure a Window for a Velcro Mosquito Net
Measure it this way and we can quote without ever visiting.
If you have fewer than five windows, a home visit is not worth your money or ours. Measure them yourself, send the figures on WhatsApp and we will quote from that. It takes about two minutes per window.
What you need
A steel tape, not a cloth one. A cloth tape stretches and will cost you a centimetre over a metre, which is enough to leave a gap at the corner.
Measuring the width
Measure outer frame to outer frame — the full frame, not the glass, not the opening. Take it three times: at the top, at the middle and at the bottom of the window.
Then use the smallest of the three readings. This is the part people get wrong. Frames are rarely square, especially in older Kolkata buildings, and if you use the largest figure the panel will not sit flat against the narrow end.
Measuring the height
Same method rotated. Outer frame to outer frame at the left, the middle and the right. Use the smallest reading again.
The three mistakes we see most
- Measuring the glass or the opening. The Velcro tape goes onto the frame face, so the frame is what we need.
- Using the largest reading. Always the smallest. A slightly small panel closes; a slightly large one buckles.
- Mixing units between windows. Centimetres or inches are both fine — just do not switch halfway through the list.
